UPI Payment Link Generator — How to Create & Share Payment Links for Free
Create UPI payment links instantly with VyaparGateway. Covers deep link structure, WhatsApp sharing, link tracking, QR codes, and bulk generation for merchants.
If you send invoices over WhatsApp, run a service business, sell through Instagram, or take bookings over the phone, UPI payment links are the fastest way to collect money without asking your customer to search for your QR code or type your VPA correctly. This guide covers everything about creating, sharing, and tracking UPI payment links.
What Is a UPI Payment Link?
A UPI payment link is a URL (or deep link) that, when tapped on a smartphone, opens the customer’s installed UPI app — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, or any other — and pre-fills your VPA and the payment amount. The customer just reviews, authenticates with PIN, and pays.
It removes the friction of:
- The customer typing your VPA incorrectly
- Sending a QR code image that may not scan well
- The customer entering the wrong amount
Anatomy of a UPI Deep Link
The underlying format of a UPI deep link is a standard defined by NPCI:
upi://pay?pa=merchant@bank&pn=MerchantName&am=5000.00&cu=INR&tn=Invoice-1042
Parameters:
pa— Payee VPA (your UPI ID)pn— Payee name (your business name)am— Amount in INR (leave blank for open-amount)cu— Currency (always INR)tn— Transaction note / order reference
This raw deep link works on Android devices where UPI apps are installed. For web-based sharing (WhatsApp links, email, SMS), VyaparGateway wraps this in a web redirect page that detects whether the customer is on mobile or desktop and handles the app handoff correctly.
Static vs Dynamic Payment Links
Static payment links point to your VPA with no fixed amount. They are useful for donations, tips, or situations where customers self-select the amount. The risk: a customer may accidentally enter ₹100 instead of ₹1,000.
Dynamic payment links lock in the amount, the order ID, and a description before you send the link. They are created per transaction and expire after the payment is completed or after a set time window. Use dynamic links for:
- Customer invoices
- Event ticket bookings
- Product orders taken over phone/chat
- Consultation fee collection
- Course enrollment fees
Creating Payment Links with VyaparGateway
VyaparGateway’s dashboard lets you generate a payment link in under 30 seconds:
- Log in to your VyaparGateway merchant dashboard.
- Click Create Payment Link.
- Enter the amount (e.g., ₹4,500), customer name (optional), and a description (e.g., “Logo Design — Order #1042”).
- Set an expiry if needed (e.g., 48 hours).
- Click Generate. Your link is ready.
You can copy the link to clipboard or use the built-in share buttons for WhatsApp, SMS, or email.
Sharing Payment Links Effectively
WhatsApp (most effective): Paste the link in a chat message. When the customer taps it, the web redirect page launches, detects their UPI app, and opens it. Most payments complete in under 90 seconds this way.
SMS: For customers without WhatsApp or smartphones, send the link via SMS. Keep the message short: “Pay ₹4,500 for your order here: [link]. Valid for 24 hrs.”
Email: Embed the payment link as a button in your invoice email. Works well for professional service providers — CAs, lawyers, consultants.
Instagram/Facebook DMs: Share the link directly. Works the same as WhatsApp. Useful for product sellers on social commerce.
Link Expiry Options
VyaparGateway lets you configure link expiry:
- No expiry — link stays valid until paid or manually cancelled
- Time-based expiry — expires after N hours or days (useful for limited-time offers)
- One-time use — link deactivates after first successful payment (recommended for fixed-price invoices)
Once a link is paid, re-use is blocked automatically.
Tracking Paid vs Unpaid Links
The VyaparGateway dashboard shows every link you have created with its current status:
- Pending — link sent, no payment received yet
- Paid — payment confirmed, with transaction ID and timestamp
- Expired — time limit reached without payment
You can filter by date range, amount, or status to reconcile payments quickly. The dashboard is particularly useful at month-end when you need to know which invoices have been settled.
Bulk Link Generation
If you bill multiple customers at once — for example, at the start of a subscription cycle or after a batch delivery — VyaparGateway supports bulk link generation:
- Upload a CSV with customer name, amount, description, and optional expiry
- VyaparGateway generates individual links for each row
- Download the output CSV with links populated, ready to paste into your CRM or billing tool
This is useful for coaching institutes collecting monthly fees, housing societies collecting maintenance, or distributors billing retail customers.
QR Code from Payment Link
Every VyaparGateway payment link can be instantly converted to a QR code. This is the same dynamic QR concept — the QR encodes the deep link including the exact amount. You can:
- Print a QR code for a specific product/service and display it at your counter
- Generate a fresh QR for each order at a restaurant or service desk
- Include the QR in a printed invoice alongside the text link
Customers who prefer scanning over clicking get the same seamless experience.
Zero-Fee Collection
Unlike traditional payment gateways that charge 2–2.36% on every UPI transaction, VyaparGateway collects 0% MDR. On ₹10 lakh collected per month, that is a saving of ₹20,000–₹23,600 every single month — money that stays in your business.

Frequently asked questions
- Is UPI payment link generation free on VyaparGateway?
- Yes. VyaparGateway generates UPI payment links at zero cost with no per-link fee. You pay 0% MDR on UPI collections, so every rupee received by your customer goes directly to your bank.
- Can I track which payment links have been paid?
- Yes. VyaparGateway's dashboard shows each payment link's status — pending, paid, or expired. You receive a real-time webhook notification when a customer completes payment, so your system can update order status without manual checking.
- What is the difference between a static and dynamic UPI payment link?
- A static UPI link points to your VPA but lets the customer enter any amount. A dynamic link has the amount, order ID, and description pre-filled and locked. Dynamic links are recommended for invoices and product sales because they prevent incorrect payment amounts.
